(DIALOGUES IN THE DARK)
Movie Screening and Discussion
The guest of MURCIR’s Wednesday Talks on March 29, 2006 was film director and scenarist Melek Taylan. After the screening of the documentary “Karanlıkta Diyaloglar (Dialogues in the Dark)” which Ms. Taylan has directed, she delivered a lecture on the root causes of honor crimes in Turkey. Ms. Taylan argued that the patriarchal family, tribal structure and social traditions are the primary reasons of honor crimes. She also added further that migration to big cities cannot dissolve this structure and migrant families maintain these traditions there also.
